The exposition is divided into several thematic collections.
Paleontology. In the first room you can find fossils of marine animals from the Cretaceous and Jurassic periods, prints of ancient plants and mollusks. Among the most valuable exhibits is the skull of a cave bear, which lived in the Abkhaz lands 12 thousand years ago.
Ethnography. This exposition tells about the cultural characteristics of the Abkhaz, their way of life and the history of the settlement of Abkhazia. Information about famous Abkhazians is also displayed here. In the center of the hall is a boat recreated according to old drawings.
Next to it is a model of a traditional Abkhaz estate: a residential building, a courtyard with outbuildings.
The old wooden wine press is well preserved.
Stone Age and Bronze Age. The stands showcase archaeological finds: stone tools, the first ceramics, jewelry. There is an exhibit of burial culture, a funeral stone box, found in the village of Ankhua.
There is also a hall of the ancient period and the Byzantine period. By the 10th century, the Abkhazian kingdom was one of the most influential in the Transcaucasus. They had established trade relations with Byzantium, which is confirmed by the finds of coins depicting the Byzantine kings.
