14 AUGUST DAY OF MEMORY AND SORRY

On August 14, 1992, the bloodiest war in the modern history of Abkhazia began.

The Patriotic War of the people of Abkhazia is 413 days of the heroic deed of the people of Abkhazia in the name of freedom and independence of their native land.

On this day, 29 years ago, at dawn, detachments of the Georgian National Guard under the command of Tengiz Kitovani, under the pretext of guarding the railway, invaded the territory of Abkhazia. The invasion involved up to two thousand Georgian guards, 58 armored vehicles, a large number of artillery. This is how the Patriotic War of the people of Abkhazia began, which lasted 413 days and ended on September 30 with the victory of the Abkhaz people.

More than 12 thousand people took part in the hostilities. According to the Ministry of Defense of Abkhazia, more than 2,700 people died and more than 5,000 were injured. More than 200 people were reported missing.

Volunteers from the North Caucasus, the South of Russia, representatives of the Abkhaz diaspora from far abroad fought for the independence of Abkhazia together with its people.

On this Day of Memory and Mourning, we bow our heads to those who showed fortitude and heroism, who selflessly fought with the enemy, who at the cost of their own lives brought the long-awaited Victory to Abkhazia.
