On this day, the State Committee for Repatriation of the Republic of Abkhazia remembers our compatriots, representatives of our diasporas from Turkey, Syria, Jordan, the North Caucasus, who in difficult times stood up to defend their historical homeland.

In total, over two thousand people came to the aid of Abkhazia during the hostilities. In addition to the fraternal peoples of the North Caucasus, volunteers of different nationalities from various cities of Russia and other countries defended the republic from the Georgian invaders.

More than two thousand volunteers participated in the 1992-1993 Patriotic War of the people of Abkhazia, of which 51 people were awarded the title "Hero of Abkhazia", 247 were awarded the Order of Leon, 623 fighters received medals "For Courage". More than 260 volunteers were killed during the war.
