According to the plan, motorized rifle units were supposed to cross several sections of the Gumista River, with air and sea support, break through the first defensive line of the enemy and develop a further offensive to liberate Sukhum. After bloody battles, the Abkhaz units were forced to retreat to their original positions.

According to participants in the offensive, in those days there were many more dead and wounded soldiers than living ones. The road from Gumista to Sukhum became for the Abkhazian army the road of courage and heroism, loss and strength.
